December’s S&P 500® Index return of 1.1% capped what some pundits are calling the “perfect year” in that the S&P 500® Index posted positive returns in all 12 months of the year. We combed monthly stock market returns and realized that we could not find any year where the market gained every single month. The closest we could find was 1995 where 11 of 12 months showed positive returns, marred only by October 1995’s 0.4% decline. So, congratulations stocks, you’ve had an extraordinary run in 2017!
